Please plan on attending both days of auditions held in Theatre Aspen’s Studio at the Red Brick Center for Arts, 110 E Hallam St. Ste 126, Aspen
Thursday, January 30 | 4 pm – 8 pm
You will sign up for 1 ten-minute time slot. Prepare 16-32 bars of music from a contemporary musical of your choice. Selection should be memorized and please bring a track or provide sheet music.
Friday, January 31 | 4 pm – 6:30 pm
Come prepared to show bold character choices as you read from the script. Reading selections will be provided and a group singing audition and/or movement exercise may take place as well. No need to prepare anything for this audition day.
Rehearsals begin February 3, running Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4p to 6:30p whenever Aspen School District is in session. An additional rehearsal may take place Saturday, April 4th if needed. Rehearsals will take place at Dance Progressions, 403 Aspen Airport Business Center, Aspen
Final rehearsals in which the acting, singing and dancing are combined with the other technical elements of the show (lights, sound, costumes, etc) is called Tech Week. It begins April 6, and rehearsals are 4pm-8pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of that week to allow our design and technical professionals enough time to put the show together.
Please be sure you and your student can commit to this rehearsal process. Unanticipated absences can make it very difficult for the cast to prepare efficiently and effectively for a stellar show.
Thursday, April 9 @ 6:30 pm
Friday, April 10 @ 6:30 pm
Saturday, April 11 @ 2:00 pm AND 6:30 pm
For the performance days, actors will be “called” (expected to arrive) 90 minutes before the show opens, and released when their costumes, etc. have been restored to their dressing rooms after the show.
Performances are at the District Theatre at Aspen Elementary School. Tickets will be available on Theatre Aspen’s website closer to the show’s opening.
Elissa Russell, Theatre Aspen’s Education Manager, will serve as director for The Lion King Jr.
Terry Lee will serve as Music Director, and Luke Ryan will choreograph.
The Spring Youth Production is open to all middle school students valley-wide who are currently enrolled in 5th – 8th grade.
