INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS
Apprentices have the opportunity to work with and learn alongside leading artists in their fields, and under the direction of highly qualified and experienced professionals: successful directors, choreographers, designers and performers from across the United States, whose credits include work on Broadway, on national tours, in Hollywood and regional theatres. Students will make valuable connections with leading employers and artists in the areas of Carpentry, Company Management, Design, Education, Electrics, Marketing, Performance, Production Management, Properties, Stage Management, Technical Supervision, Wardrobe, and more.
HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE
Performance apprentices are cast in at least one main stage show and the Theatre Aspen Summer Cabaret Series, plus a showcase and may have the additional performance opportunities throughout the summer. Design and Technical apprentices work with professional designers and technicians in their field of choice. Education apprentices work with professional Teaching Artists and Education Administrators in youth classes and productions. The Apprentice Company will work together, combining their skills, to create and present their own original showcase toward the end of the season. Apprentices have the opportunity to gain other industry skills by assisting in the administrative office, working in the concession stand, and teaching at the Theatre Aspen School.
EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS
The Producing Director, creative team members, company associates, and other industry experts will offer a variety of classes, lectures and workshops given by guest performers, directors, TA staff, and area industry professionals. Topics may include Actors Equity, Alexander Technique, Audition Techniques, “The Biz of the Biz,” Casting Director One-on-Ones, Designer sessions, Resume Preparation, Contract Negotiation, Vocal Health, and Arts Administration.
HOUSING & STIPEND
All apprenticeships are paid opportunities at $350/week plus housing and travel. Free public transportation is available (bus shuttles) and bikes are available.
EMC POINTS
Performance and Stage Management Apprentices have the opportunity to earn points towards their Actors’ Equity Association membership, for rehearsal and performance. Many Theatre Aspen actors have received their Equity cards while working at the theatre and Theatre Aspen prides itself on preparing young professionals for work in the field.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
While at Theatre Aspen, Apprentices may have opportunities to earn additional wages, based on production/work schedule and completion of applicable training for each position. Some of these positions include Concession Staff during Mainstage Performances before shows and during intermission and Event Manager and/or Bar Staff during weddings, corporate, and other rental events.
THEATRE ASPEN COMMUNITY
Theatre Aspen Apprentices join a supportive atmosphere in a spectacular mountain setting with the opportunity to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime outdoor and cultural activities. This includes a rafting trip, participation in the 4th of July parade, and other apprentice gatherings. Apprentices will also join the Theatre Aspen Alumni Association after successful completion of the program, where they can connect with other alumni currently working in professional positions across all facets of the industry.
