2nd-4th Grade Mini Musical!
NEW: 5th-8th StoryQuest
K-4 Early Release Adventures EVERY WEDNESDAY!
Where The Wild Things Are
Put on your wolf suits and get ready to sail to the place Where The Wild Things Are. In our original retelling of this classic story, students will roar their terrible roars, gnash their terrible teeth, and tell Max and The Wild Things’ story in our short musical adventure. Learning to listen, collaborate, and make creative decisions through story, song, and dance, students will culminate this 7 week program in a performance for friends and family.
Harold and the Purple Crayon
There’s nothing in the world that can’t come to life if you imagine it with a purple crayon in your hand. In our original retelling of the classic story, Harold and the Purple Crayon transforms one boy’s adventure into a rich world where the elements of his imagination not only appear before him, but come fully to life. Learning to listen, collaborate, and make creative decisions through story, song, and dance, students will culminate this 7 week program in a performance for friends and family.
Who: Students in Kindergarten or 1st Grade
When: Thursdays 4-5:15pm (PLEASE NOTE: now that we have a handle on the new school schedule, the session time for Harold and the Purple Crayon will be shifted to 4-5:15pm. Class time for Wild Things will remain 3:45-5pm.)
Where The Wild Things Are: Thurs August 29th – Thurs October 10th (7 weeks)
Harold and the Purple Crayon: Thurs October 17th – Thurs December 12th (7 weeks, no rehearsal October 31st or November 28th)
Where: Theatre Aspen Studio at the Red Brick Center for the Arts
AES Students may take the F (Fox) bus from the elementary school directly to the Red Brick Center and be picked up directly from the bus by the Theatre Aspen instructor. ACDS students can also take their bus directly to Red Brick. Because other bus locations have separate drop off spots we request that students at ACS, BES, or other schools are either dropped at Red Brick or a parent/appointed grown up is present to assist them in walking from the bus to our classroom.
Zoinks! Hop into The Mystery Van and cruise the mean streets taking down bad guys with Scoob and The Gang. In Scooby Doo: A Musical Mystery, students will learn and build upon a foundation of musical theatre skills all while tackling a fresh new script with music set in the world of Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne, and Fred. This class will culminate in a final performance for friends and families where students will emerge victorious! After all, there’s nothing a bunch of meddling kids can’t do.

Not sure what to do with your student every Wednesday when the bell rings for Early Release? Join Theatre Aspen EVERY Early Release Wednesday for our Early Release Adventures! Our programs are flexible to meet your family’s needs – each session is one month long, and families can commit for the full month for a discount, or drop in on any given week when you need a killer adventure to fill your afternoon. Early Release Adventures will take place at Aspen Elementary School for your family’s convenience. Students will meet our teachers directly after school, and set their imaginations wild until 3:15 at their regular release time.
What type of adventures will we go on you ask? After a snack provided by Theatre Aspen and a brief afternoon recess, Adventurers will embark on a trip through stories and characters invented right on the spot in our creative improv games, activating bodies, voices, and imaginations to learn how to be storytellers and innovators. Each session will have a different Adventure Theme, so your young actors can play with us all year long and have a fresh experience each month.
At the end of each month’s session, families will be welcome to join us for the last 15 minutes of class to see a demonstration of the improvisation games we’ve been learning that month, which will feature all adventurers whether they’ve been with us the whole month or are dropping in that day.

Part “D&D” style tabletop role-playing game, part playwriting, part improv – all epic exploits! StoryQuest invites a group of young thrill seekers to craft characters, build worlds, and embark together on a thrilling quest. Over our 7 weeks together, you’ll journey through and help create an original fantasy world, understanding why and how worldbuilding and character creation go from the inklings of an idea to a critical puzzle piece in the fabric of a story. Players will have the option to bring their character to life up on their feet, improvising and reacting in real time as the game plays itself out. This program is perfect for those interested in creative exploration but less inclined towards performing for an audience.
