About Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr.

Theatre Aspen’s Summer Youth Musical provides an opportunity for actors entering Grades 4-7 to spend five weeks building skills, community, and confidence. This program culminates in a weekend of performances on the Hurst stage, the same stage used by Theatre Aspen’s Broadway company. Actors will be given specialized training from our teaching staff to build necessary skills for any theatre performer. These include group dance lessons, acting and vocal coaching as well as an audition workshop to ensure every actor can show us their best when we cast the show.

To participate in Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., all you have to do is register. Actors will audition and be cast into specific roles on the first day of the camp.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music by Alan Menken.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking. This story shows the importance of family connections, individual freedom, and not taking your voice for granted.

What happens during the Summer Youth Musical?

Week 1: Audition Workshops, Auditions & Callbacks, Read Through, Skill Building Classes
Week 2: Blocking, Singing Technique Training, Music Rehearsals, Dance Class, Choreography Rehearsals, Character Building
Week 3: Blocking, Music Rehearsals, Choreography Rehearsals, Ensemble Building, Design
Week 4: Run Through Rehearsals, Sharpening Technique, Finalizing Designs
Week 5: Technical Rehearsals & Performances
